I went out to the kitchen garden last week to have a look around and took a few photos. The one of the dead zinnia 'profusion' plants was an interesting monochromatic study, I thought. It's a color photo but looks to be a black & white one. Then I walked around outside of the kitchen garden and found a bunch of bittersweet berries in among the wildlife thickets that I've kept uncultivated. I don't know if this is the native bittersweet (good) or the non-native, probably invasive Japanese type (bad). Well, which ever one they are, they are a bit of welcome color in the winter-dead landscape.

Beautiful bittersweet! I've been trying to identify the berries I have in my yard. Some people said they might be bittersweet, but they look different than yours. Mine still have green leaves on them this time of year.

Hi! I just left a comment about it on your blog. Bittersweet, at least the one I have, is a vine. I cannot figure out what your berry is. Is it growing wild or is it something someone planted?

Thanks for your comment on my blog. My mystery shrub was planted by the previous owner of the house. I think I've narrowed it down to a Euonymus of some sort. Euonymus Manhattan maybe?

I love the photograph of the berries. I have several Bittersweet vines and none of them have flowered.
